fencer's folly (sword touranment)


Welcome to Fencer’s Folly, the official Sea of Thieves Sword Tournament hosted by Sea of Thieves – Australia (SOTAU).

This event is built for pirates who want to test their skill, discipline, and cutlass mastery in a fair and competitive format. Step onto the bridge, hold your ground, and earn the title of Sword Master (Name May Change).

Tournament Format

  • 1v1 Cutlass Duels
  • Single Elimination Bracket
  • Matches are played as Best of 10 Rounds
  • Each round ends when one player is eliminated

Tournament Location

All matches will take place at: Port Merrick Bridge (Custom Server as directed by staff)

Players must remain on the bridge and within the designated fighting area at all times.

Tournament Rules

1. Weapons & Equipment

  • Cutlass only
  • No firearms
  • No throwables
  • No secondary items

Eating is NOT allowed

No food is permitted during rounds (fruit, meat, cooked food, etc.)

2. Round Rules

  • Each elimination = 1 round win
  • The first player to win the most rounds (Best of 10) wins the match

Falling off the bridge = you lose the round

If you fall into the water or off the bridge for any reason, the round is awarded to your opponent.

3. Time Limits

  • Each round has a 5-minute time limit
  • If time expires, the player with the most health remaining wins the round

4. Arena & Conduct

No leaving the arena

Leaving the bridge / fight zone results in a round loss or disqualification (staff decision). No external interference

  • No help from crew mates
  • No outside players interfering
  • No distractions or interference mid-round

5. Fair Play & Sportsmanship

This is a competitive event, but it must stay respectful.

  • No cheating, exploits, or prohibited mechanics
  • No toxic behavior, abuse, or harassment
  • Any form of unfair play may result in immediate disqualification

6. Referees & Match Control

SOTAU staff will act as referees to:

  • Start and stop rounds
  • Track scores
  • Enforce rules
  • Resolve disputes

Referee decisions are final.

Streaming & Spectators

Matches may be livestreamed or recorded for community viewing, highlights, and promotion.

Discord Communication

All tournament communication will be run through the SOTAU Discord, including:

  • Bracket updates (Bracket will update on website)
  • Match coordination
  • Referee instructions
  • Announcements and results

Please allow 1–2 weeks after the event for prizes and rewards to be processed and delivered.
